Highveld German Shepherd Dog & All Breeds Training Club is an entirely voluntary club that has been in existence for some 40 years.
In the early days Highveld was a breed club that concentrated on showing the German Shepherd. The club soon expanded to include all
breeds in its activities. The emphasis was then on obedience training. For many years the club ran KUSA Championship & Non-Championship
Obedience & Agility shows at Gillooly’s Farm but for the last few years have concentrated on social obedience.
The club is affiliated
to The Kennel Union of South Africa, and we operate within their framework.
We run as a non-profit club; neither the trainers nor the
committee are paid, so we keep our fees to a minimum.
TRAINING GROUNDS
We are very fortunate in being able to run our training
club at Hamilton Park, Bryanston which falls under Johannesburg City Parks. We first obtained permission to train here in the early
80’s and have on-going contact with City Parks & local residents.
ACTIVITIES
During the term we offer various activities.
These range from an occasional talk from experts in grooming, nutrition, or health problems. There is an organised walk along the
Braamfontein Spruit each term to improve the socialising of dogs (& members!), we also have a visit from the River Rangers and
their horses. Some classes also undertake a visit to the shops to help acclimatise dogs to different situations.
